7 Days of Stretch

Ever since it was announced that there would be a quarantine in response to managing the Covid-19 pandemic, millions of citizens have been limited to their homes. I knew the virus was serious when schools would be closed for two weeks, but when Governor Wolfe called for non-essential businesses to be shut down indefinitely I knew we were in trouble. My initial thought wasn’t only about income, my freelance status does call for worry but at the forefront was mental health.

Since the call was made in March, over three million citizens have filed for unemployment. Those who are fortunate enough to remain employed are either limited to the walls of their homes or overworked as they are the forefront in fighting the pandemic. A lot of this stress made me think of our bodies are impacted as a result of this. In Dance Therapy, we learn about the mind & body connection and they can impact each other. Mindfulness is key during these stressful times and keeping our bodies active is important.

So I created a series of workouts and movement plans that can help others get through this pandemic and remain active. The first of them all is my #7DaysofStretch. The idea is to carve out less than 10 minutes each day to stretch your body and practice a little mindfulness. These series of stretches will keep your body mobile and also active. You can download the plan here to hang up on your wall. For those who are more visual learners, you can watch my video below and stretch with me. I’d love for you to tag me so I can post you on Instagram & Twitter.

It’s very important that you take care of your body when doing these stretches. Never strain your body too much and always know your limits. Be sure to drink a lot of water during this time you’re home, it can be easy to lose track of what you’re putting in your body.
